Domains of action

This multi-level project includes the following domains of action:

a) Intervention programs in Greek Schools.

The intervention programs in schools aim to foster positive development and promote students’ school and psychosocial adjustment with the optimal goal to enhance students’ school engagement. The intervention programs target all the student population and intend to promote mental health, enhance resilience and self-esteem, strengthen social-emotional skills, and to develop a positive school climate and supportive environment in the classroom and school-wide.
These programs include: i) Specialized teacher training seminars: in every seminar the theoretical framework is presented and specially designed and structured classroom activities are proposed for implementation based on the goals of the specific thematic area and the wider program. Additionally, the training seminars include specially designed experiential exercises for teachers that aim to help them to process and comprehend the concepts that are presented in the theoretical part, as well as to be better prepared to implement the suggested classroom activities. Finally, the trainer seminars include supervision of the program implementation in classrooms.
ii) Implementation of classroom activities: every teacher receives educational material that includes specially designed and structured classroom activities with specific goals and implementation process.
During the 2011-2012 school year the first intervention program, “Teachers’ training program for the psychological support of children in the period of economic crisis (Στηρί-Ζωντας)”, was implemented in 29 Greek primary schools from Athens and surrounding areas. This school year (2012-2013) the “Teachers’ training program for the promotion of a positive school climate and resilience in the school community (Ε.Μ.Ε.Ι.Σ)” is implemented in 43 primary schools and middle/ junior high schools in the area of Athens.
iii) Evaluation: A multi-level evaluation model is applied to all the intervention programs in terms of content and process, as well as the effectiveness. The implementation of scientific-based programs that are based in evidence-based interventions is an important criterion of effective programs and is highlighted in the international literature. For more information regarding the evaluation of the intervention programs of Connecting for Caring.
